What I Will Champion

I don't believe that municipal candidates should have a list of promises outlined as a "platform" because candidates should not be making promises that require a majority council vote to approve. Decisions require collaboration, should be evidence-based and informed by community input. What I can tell you is what I will fight for, the questions I will ask, and the priorities that I will advocate for at the Council table.

Affordability & Responsible, Accountable Government

Ensure transparency so that residents can see where and how their tax dollars are being spent. Implement minimum benchmarks for community engagement and the collection of feedback to ensure that all decisions are informed by the community.
Responsible multi-year budgeting to understand the future tax impact of decisions made today.
Set clear spending priorities - distinguish between what is "essential" and what can be deferred so that dollars are spent where they have the greatest impact.

A "Housing First" approach that prioritizes stable housing paired with wraparound supports for mental health, addiction, and life skills.
Expanded prevention programs including rental assistance and eviction prevention, particularly for those living on fixed incomes.
Advocate for a formal affordable housing negotiation framework to ensure that development plans include dedicated affordable housing units.

Growth, Development & Complete Communities

Ensure infrastructure keeps pace with growth, including roads, transit, water and wastewater capacity with clear plans on how and when services will be funded.
Build a community that thrives where residents have access to shops and services, parks and green space and safe walking and cycling connections
Ensure that residents are adequately informed, consulted and engaged in proposed projects early on and ensure that their feedback is thoughtfully considered.

Tackle road congestion and capacity through the use of adaptive traffic signals that respond to real-time traffic conditions to improve traffic flow and reduce unneccessary waiting.
Better, more reliable transit that reflects how people actually travel, improve route connections, frequency and reliability.
Identify neighbourhoods impacted by excessive cut-through traffic and explore traffic calming measures while maintaining safe, convenient access.

Aging Well in Ajax

I will advocate for solutions to keep seniors aging in place, that include support for diverse housing types, including multi-generational homes and garden suites.
Getting around easier - I would support a motion to introduce a senior's shuttle service and ensure that our sidewalks and croswalks are accessible for walkers and wheelchairs.
Work in partnership with the provincial government to ensure that community and health supports meet the needs of our community, including access to long-term care, respite services and supportive day programs.

Protect our water and wastewater infrastructure by addressing aging infrastructure in a timely manner and provide a reliable service that also keeps pace with proposed growth.
Champion practical ways that improve community participation in waste reduction programs and diverts materials from landfills to support a sustainable Ajax.
Thinking ahead - protect our green space and waterfront by building climate resilience into the way that we plan, maintain and upgrade infrastructure.
